A narrow absorption feature on the red part of the solar H Lyman-alpha profile has been observed by two instruments in 1975 and attributed to atomic hydrogen of the nearby interplanetary gas. This hypothesis implies that the absorption feature shifts with the position of the earth on its orbit. New measurements above active regions at other seasons rule out this hypothesis. On the other hand, appropriate laboratory calibrations indicate that the absorption feature is likely due to a ghost image of the geocoronal absorption.
