It is suggested that the apparently deficient interstellar X-ray
absorption along the line of sight to compact X-ray sources must be due
to a soft X-ray emission excess. Suitable multiple-emission regions are
predicted to exist in accretion disks. Examples of this feature are
found in Cyg X-1 and Sco X-1.
