The absorption and emission coefficients of ionized hydrogen are computed by exact evaluation of a known classical expression. The result is compared with quantum mechanical calculations for temperatures and frequencies of astrophysical interest, and the agreement is found to be very good. Several analytical approximation formulae suitable for different physical conditions are presented. A table of a function of one variable, from which the absorption and emission coefficients can be computed, is provided in a form suitable for interpolation.
