The technique of absolute integral multiplicities for the neutron component and data obtained by the global network of neutron supermonitors are used to determine absolute spectra of solar protons with rigidities of 1 to 5 GV at the top of the atmosphere for six cosmic-ray flares of solar cycle 20. The flares include those that occurred on January 28, 1967; November 18, 1968; February 25, 1969; January 25, 1971; September 1, 1971; and August 7, 1972. It is found that the spectra can be approximated with equal probability by either a power-law or an exponential function of particle rigidity for both power-law and exponential approximations of the solar-cosmic-ray latitudinal variation. The uncertainty is attributed to the narrowness of the particle-rigidity range for which solar-cosmic-ray spectra can be determined.
