A series of measurements of infrared apparent temperatures of 10 selected sites in lunar maria has been undertaken, using an infrared receiver (11.3 microns). The experimental procedures are described. The theory of the receiver is developed and the theory of two methods of calibration of the measurements is given. This method was applied during two studies in 1977 and 1978, giving 142 values of temperatures.
