Red dwarf star absolute magnitude determination from spectral types and broadband color is described. The sample is restricted to stars with relative parallax error 0.14 (= delta M 0m.30). Calibration consists of elimination of known or suspected binaries, and of stars with combined colors or spectra; exclusion of stars with inexplicably large deviations, which may be caused by misprints or misidentifications; formation of groups of the same spectral class or nearly the same color; evaluation of the mean absolute magnitude of each group; and determination of a smoothed curve weighted according to the different numbers of stars included in the group means. The method provided photometric parallexes or = 0".040 for 90 stars with unknown distances.
