The determination of the absolute magnitude and the kinematic parameters of RR Lyrae stars, their effects on the estimates of the distances and the ages of globular clusters, and the comparisons between the results and those from other distance indicators are reviewed. Due to the differences of the methods and the data, the inconsistence of the results are still larger among each other. For example, the absolute magnitude of RR Lyrae stars determined from the direct and indirect measurement methods splits into faint and brighter values, the distance modulus of the Large Magellanic Cloud and the estimates of the ages of globular clusters based on the RR Lyrae stars and the other distance indicators are not fully coincided.
