Solid state array detectors, such as the Reticon and Digicon, are well suited for use on coude spectrometers of large telescopes. The Reticon is most efficient in applications requiring large signal-to-noise ratio. The optimal systems for study with the Reticon are, therefore, bright, large light-ratio binaries. A study involving the use of a Reticon detector was conducted of YZ Cas, which is a bright large light-ratio eclipsing binary that is single lined on the best photographic spectrograms. Digital spectral scans were obtained in the red region of the spectrum at a central wavelength of approximately 6420 A. The method used to determine the radial velocities was a modification of the methods used by Lacy (1977) and Tomkin and Lambert (1978). The resulting velocities of the components of YZ Cas were corrected for instrumental shifts. The final spectroscopic orbit was combined with an adopted photometric orbit to yield the absolute dimensions and masses.
