The determination of the azimuth correction for transit circles in low latitude sites is heavily handicapped by image motion and bad seeing at large zenith distances, specially in the case of lower culminations of polar stars. The "polarissima" method is discussed and results of a two year period of observations at a latitude of -23° are presented. A single observation yields the azimuth with an accuracy of O."85 and, if stable marks are available, absolute solutions are feasible.
