The absolute values of the 18O/16O ratio (Rs) and the relative 18O content (Xs) in SMOW have been determined by comparing SMOW mass spectrometrically with well-defined synthetic mixtures of pure D218O and H216O. The results are: RS = (2005.20 +/- 0.45) × 10 -6, XS = (2000.45 +/- 0.45) × 10-6.
