In order to describe meteoroid ablation, the study proposes a hydrodynamic mechanism of the phenomenon, which consists of the dispersion of liquid particles from the surface of the fusion film as a consequence of its hydrodynamic instability. With certain simplifications an analysis is made of the stability to small perturbations of the fusion film which interacts with the hypersonic airflow and with the solid meteoroid body. It is shown that on the lateral meteoroid surface the instability has a periodic character and may therefore be the cause of the periodic (quasi-continuous) dispersion of the liquid particles.
