Wave data obtained at interplanetary shocks provide an excellent opportunity to study shock dissipation mechanisms at low Mach number shocks. Most previous studies have been done at the usually high Mach number bow shock. We describe results of a statistical study of waveform capture data obtained by the Wind Waves instrument within and near the ramp region of fast forward interplanetary ( IP ) shocks. The study examines the dependence on parameters including beta, Mach number and shock normal angle, as well as the relation to particle distributions. Solitary waves, Langmuir waves, ion acoustic waves and other waves are all observed in the ramp region of the IP shocks. Preliminary results indicate a correlation between the electric field wave amplitude and both plasma β and Mach number. We will discuss the dependence of wave amplitudes on Mach number, both below and above the critical Mach number, and the association of different wave modes with plasma parameters and types of particle distributions. The statistical results will be compared to theories and simulations of fast mode shocks.
