It is proposed to supplement the main instruments on the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) with a wide-field monitor in order to maximize the scientific return from the mission. The high degree of time variability exhibited by cosmic gamma-ray sources underlines the need for having a hard X-ray monitor as an integrated element of the scientific payload. Reliable predictions of the resource requirements and sensitivity of the proposed detector can be based on the experiences obtained with similar detectors operated on the GRANAT and EURECA satellites.
