Scientific paper

The motions of young stars from astrometric fundamental catalogues show
a breaking wave in the velocity field along the local spiral arm as a
function of distance along the same direction: wave-length ≡1 kpc,
total velocity range ≡7 km/s. Some consequences of this finding
are indicated.
