The Lie-series perturbation method of Hori (1966) is modified to analyze celestial-mechanics problems in which the principal part of the Hamiltonian is a function of the momenta only. The modified procedure is shown to give a solution to any order with only one canonical transformation and to avoid the problems of inversion and pseudotime computation. The applicability of the present procedure to the calculation of artificial-satellite orbits and to analyses of the ideal resonance problem is indicated.
