The discovery of a highly variable radio source coincident with the bright galactic bulge X-ray source GX 349 + 2 (Sco X-2, 1702-363) is reported. In a series of observations with the VLA the source was detected at high significance (greater than 10 sigma) on two occasions and at a lower significance (greater than 4 sigma) on a further three. Variability by a factor of three on a timescale of days is clearly indicated. The radio source is located to within 0.5 arcsec and is coincident with a 19th magnitude optical object. It is shown that the colors of this counterpart are consistent with the expectations for a low mass X-ray binary in the vicinity of the galactic center.
