Adelberger et al. (2003) reported a tentative detection of the effects of feedback of star-forming galaxies on the IGM. However, the small size of their observed fields made it difficult to interpret the z-space evidence to determine the Ly(alpha) cloud dynamics relative to the LBGs. We are using the significantly wider field of VLT VIMOS to make a unique spectroscopic survey of 10000 LBGs in QSO fields (VLT time for ~3000 allocated so far). Crucially we are extending the studies of Ly(alpha) - LBG correlations to dramatically larger angular scales (~20h^-1 Mpc) than those probed by Adelberger et al., giving vital new information on the dynamics of the IGM. Here, we are proposing to lay the groundwork for observations which will extend the survey towards our ultimate aim of 10000 LBGs, allowing us to fully elucidate the interaction between star-forming galaxies and the IGM. Our immediate goal is to use the MOSAIC cameras to complete the UV imaging in 4 QSO fields required for the future success of this project.
