A model of the universe is proposed wherein matter is assumed to be concentrated in spots surrounded by vacuum with a positive cosmological constant. The metric around a spot is computed. This metric is composite with a Schwarzschild and a de Sitter component. Numerical computations for some galaxies and group of galaxies show that the de Sitter component prevails at some distance. The main properties of a universe governed by such a metric are disclosed (expansion, recession, redshift, etc.). Numerical values are computed and appear to be in agreement with current observational data. A Newtonian limit is also investigated.
