A simple technique of apodization is proposed for the circular pupil of telescopes with or without central obscuration. An opaque strip which crosses the pupil parallel to the binary-star orientation in the image plane serves as the apodizing screen. A comparison is made with a more complicated apodization technique. It is concluded that the proposed technique is sufficiently effective if the main factor in the point-image formation is not atmospheric nonuniformity or optical-system aberration but diffraction at the telescope aperture.
