We describe a four-year program carried out at the CTIO to determine parallaxes for stars in the solar neighborhood. The program targets faint, previously missing members of the nearby star sample primarily white, red, and brown dwarfs. The results of the survey will allow us to improve the luminosities, colors, and temperatures for these Galactic constituents, broaden the database used to investigate the luminosity function, mass function, kinematics, and multiplicity of stars in the solar neighborhood, estimate the age of the Galactic disk via the white dwarf luminosity function, and provide targets for upcoming extrasolar planetary searches. We predict that as much as 70% of stellar systems within 25 pc remain undiscovered in the region between d = -30o and d = -90o (see Table 1). The parallaxes will be combined with optical spectroscopy and photometry (obtained at ESO and CTIO), to determine accurate optical luminosities and a spectral classi.cation, therefore providing a complete astrophysical characterization of these stars.
