The authors present nine fields of extended 6C radio sources, selected for the range of 6C-source morphology they represent. Higher-resolution follow-up studies reveal giant radio galaxies, cluster radio sources and confusional artefacts. The authors find that at flux densities S151 ≅ 1 Jy, confusion on 6C maps is dominant regardless of morphology, while extended, straight sources with S151 > 5 Jy are most likely to be giant radio sources. They find no evidence for nearby sources masquerading as distant, giant sources: once the confusion problem is overcome, sources which look like giants - on the basis of their observed radio properties alone - are indeed giants.
