A theory of the tomographic reconstruction of the spatial structure of the statistical characteristics of the randomly irregular ionosphere is presented. Equations are derived for the coherence functions of the recorded field which make it possible to determine the height of the layer with irregularities and to evaluate the cross sections of the correlation function of electron-density fluctuations. Results are presented from an experiment where a transmitter on a satellite and a linear array of detectors on the earth's surface made it possible to determine the three-dimensional structure of the correlation function in the case of a statistically regular layer.
