In this report we will describe a theoretical formulation that is used for constructing three-dimensional models of the upper atmosphere. With this formulation we compute temperatures and densities over the entire globe through the altitude range 120 to 800 km. Our equations are derived from the laws of conservation of mass, momentum, and energy, and the main input to the problem is solar radiational heating. We prescribe the temperature and density of the atmospheric constituents O2, N2, O, He, and H at the base of the atmosphere, 120 km. After having rewritten the conservation equations in difference form, we have numerically computed some solutions. Preliminary results of these calculations are presented.
