It is suggested that a third, light star orbiting the Her X-1/HZ Her
system in an eccentric orbit with a period of 35 days is responsible for
the 35-day cycle and may also account for the long-term HZ Her
variations. Suggestions for some specific orbits and for further
measurements to test this model are made.
