A formula for the gravitational potential of spheroidal systems is proposed and applied to the Galactic system. The model consists of a disk, nucleus, and massive halo. Although this model is not quite as accurate as those produced by the superposition of large numbers of simple spheroids, it has the important advantage of retaining analytic simplicity for its acceleration formulas, thereby producing significant economies for orbital computations. As better observational data become available, the method can be readily expanded.
