A criterion is given for large-scale anisotropy of the Universe, and it is applied using a sample of 139 extragalactic radio sources with known rotation measures and redshifts. The distribution functions of the rotation measures are compared with their absolute values for redshifts smaller and greater than z = 0.25 in seven regions of the sky. A statistically significant difference in found only in the region extending from 320 to 230 deg galactic longitude, 70 to 20 deg galactic latitude, and from 140 to 50 deg longitude, -20 to -70 deg latitude. The rotation measure increases with redshift only in this region. This is interpreted as evidence for a large-scale uniform component of an intergalactic magnetic field. Neither the galactic field nor intrinsic rotation measures including evolutionary effects can explain this result.
