Recently the Lyα, C IV and Si IV absorption lines at the redshifts of the voids in Perseus-Pisces and Bootes have been detected in the UV spectra of background quasars. A detailed analysis of the data for the void in Bootes undertaken by the authors 1985 has shown that the gas could be contained either in large numbers of dwarf galaxies in the void or be distributed within the void. Both possibilities suggest an explosional origin of the cosmic void. Here the authors propose a test to check the expected shell-like structure of the gas: the column density on the edge of the void should be much larger than near its centre.
