The hard X-ray spectrum of Her X-1 has been extensively investigated, since the discovery by Truemper et al. (1977) of a feature around 60 keV, interpreted as a cyclotron line. A recent observation (LEGS) with high energy resolution detectors (Delta E approximately 1 keV) from GSFC/SACLAY exhibits a line at a much smaller energy than previous measurements. It seems that this line energy variation is correlated with the intensity of the line as well as the continuum luminosity emitted by Her X-1. An attempt is made to explain such a correlation by using the Bonazzola et al. (1979) model which considers the cooling by comptonization on a cold plasma of a blackbody spectrum, injected at the bottom of the accretion column. It is shown that a temperature variation of the injected spectrum could produce the line energy shift as well as its correlation with the line intensity and the continuum luminosity. The model fits satisfactorily most of the observed characteristics of the hard X-ray spectrum of Her X-1; nevertheless new observations are strongly needed, mainly to confirm the correlation mentioned above.
