In the past decade galaxy formation at z>1 has become an observationally tractable problem. However, almost all progress has been made on the basis of statistical samples in which the per-object S/N is modest. Full understanding of the high-z universe will only come through such work coupled to the detailed study of individual sources; opportunities for this remain limited due to a lack of targets. We propose to undertake a search for strongly lensed Lyman break galaxies around massive galaxy clusters in order to build a sample of observably bright (but intrinsically faint) high-redshift star-forming galaxies. From a unique sample of ~ 150 strong-lensing clusters from the RCS- 2 catalogs, each with at least one bright arc, we expect to distill a sample of 10-20 lensed LBGs at z>2. Lensed LBGs are significantly magnified, and ideal targets for spatially resolved detailed follow-up observations. Moreover, the proposed data will refine our understanding of the overall redshift distribution of lensed sources behind clusters: a critical observable needed for comparing the RCS cluster strong lens catalog to cosmological predictions.
