A system for control of pointing and guiding of the Moore Observatory 21-inch (52-cm) telescope is described. Its key features are open-loop stepper motor positioning, an on-line star catalog and orbital ephemeris, and a Vidicon interface for automatic guiding, implemented on an IBM-PC/XT using 32-bit FORTH. Essential characteristics of the architecture and design are given with an evaluation following a year of use. It appears to be a practical and inexpensive method of adding computer control to renovated telescopes of this class.
