Work continues on the floor and walls of Schickard, based on the microscopic study of Orbiter IV HR 160/2 microfilm, using low power photomicrography to construct photographic outlines for the preparation of accurate drawings at the microscope. This project is intended to include the examination of all the various types of feature present on the floor and in the walls, with a view to searching for likely endogenic and exogenic modifications to the original structure of Schickard. The features include large maria-like dark floor areas, with 'ghost' structures and flooded 'coastal' formations, small dark patches, various types of crater showing differing distributions, crater chains, clusters and fissures, faults, domes, sinuous rilles, valleys, hillocks and numerous white spots. Since the Orbiter IV HR160/2 microfilm frame is an exceptionally good example in terms of the detail shown, most of the areas photographed onto transparencies are worthy of close inspection. Clearly the limitations of the Orbiter IV image data must be considered. This may be rectified in the future, but in the meantime, visual, photographic or CCD examination of larger features, under a variety of conditions by experienced observers, would be well worthwhile.
