This paper presents a catalogue of positions, proper motions, trigonometric parallaxes and photographic B, V photometry for 6125 stars with B < 17.5 and V < 17.0 in an area of 20 square degrees near the South Galactic Cap. These data have been obtained from plates taken with the UK Schmidt telescope between 1975 and 1981, which were measured on the GALAXY machine at RGO. The proper motions show clear evidence of parallactic motion, consistent with the known kinematics of stars near the Sun. This observed parallactic motion has been used to estimate the zero-point of proper motions and to calibrate the measured trigonometric parallaxes. The external errors of the parallaxes are consistent with the formal errors ranging between ±0.012 and ±0.017 arcsec according to apparent magnitude. The internal proper motion errors range between ±0.006 and ±0.008 arcsec, but there is evidence for a significant additional variance which could be explained by an excess error of up to ±0.014 arcsec or an increase in velocity dispersion with distance from the galactic plane. Clear evidence is given for relative cubic radial distortion and field tilt between the two Schmidt correctors.
