We propose a sensitive NEWFIRM JHK_S survey of three molecular clouds: Cep OB3 (3 sq. degree), Mon R2 cloud (5.5 sq. degree) and S140 cloud (1.5 sq. degree). These data will complement existing and planned Spitzer IRAC and MIPS 3-24 micron imaging. With these data, we will survey these clouds for young stars and protostars with the sensitivity to detect 1 Myr objects well below the Hydrogen burning limit. From this unprecedented census, we will examine the demographics of star formation in molecular clouds, the spatial distribution of birth sites, the dynamical evolution of young clusters, and the relationship between the density of newborn stars and the density of the parental molecular gas.
