Although X-ray emission appears to be a universal property of QSOs, there is still considerable diversity in the strength of this emission. One particular class of objects, Soft X-ray Weak Quasi-Stellar Objects (SXW QSOs), show 10--30 times weaker X-ray emission than other comparable QSOs. We present results of a search for SXW QSOs, using the optical-to-X-ray power-law slope α ox. We present results for the 5% of objects which have α ox<= -2.0, indicating soft X-ray weakness. An analysis of the X-ray and UV data for these objects is also presented, with particular attention paid to absorption properties. Conclusions are drawn as to how selection upon α ox can be an effective way of finding objects which have interesting properties, such as broad absorption lines, extreme Fe 2 emission, and mergers.
