A brief discussion of hard X-ray measurements in the Earth's atmosphere is presented. In this context, recent measurements using balloon-borne detectors in the South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly (SAMA) have provided the first evidence of the presence of hard X-rays produced by natural electron precipitation in this region. These hard X-rays are compared to those due to other sources.
