Surveys for OH and methanol masers in our Galaxy are well advanced, but the study of the most abundant of masers, water at 22-GHz, is glaringly deficient. A good survey of masers will provide sub arcsec positions of all objects above a well defined sensitivity limit in a well-defined region. Even the special region of the Galactic Centre has not yet been properly surveyed for water masers. The fact that excellent surveys in this region exist (or are being made) of the other key maser species, methanol and OH, means that it is timely for a similar survey of water masers. We propose to do this in an efficient manner with a mosaic survey with the ATCA.
