Clusters Of Galaxies: Supernovae, Clusters Of Galaxies: Cooling Flows

Scientific paper

The authors report the preliminary result of a supernova watch program in the cooling flow region of Abell 426 (Perseus). A total control time of more than 2 yr is realized on the basis of the observations available at present. No supernova has been found. A search for already-detected supernovae in clusters with strong cooling flows yielded only one detection: SN 1968A in Abell 426. Its position shows a very remarkable coincidence with the region of interaction between the radio jet and the ambient hot intracluster gas.
