A faint stellar object was detected in NGC 1199 elliptical galaxy which was interpreted as a supernova explosion. Since it is known that only type I supernovae occur in elliptical galaxies, the color indices of this type were used to derive the value for the intensity B equals 20.4 plus or minus 0.2; using the galactic absorption magnitude of 0.26 (de Vaucouleurs, 1976), B is equal to 20.1 plus or minus 0.2, with the absolute magnitude of -11.9. This shows that the supernova has already significantly decreased since its maximum.
