Three pairs of submillimeter lambda-doubled lines of the methylidyne, CH, radical have been observed in Orion KL with the Herschel HIFI instrument as a part of the HEXOS program. Emission is observed from the ground state cross ladder pair at 533/537 GHz while the pairs at 1471/1477 and 1657/1661 GHz originating from the upper levels at 533/537 GHz are all in absorption. The line profiles are consistent with the systemic velocity of the molecular cloud and do not show the outflow seen in HF and H_2O. The well-established relationship between CH and H_2 makes these transitions a sensitive probe of the local gas conditions.
