The present study was to investigate the change in spectrum property of a JGS3 optical fused quartz induced by radiation of protons and electrons with energy 60-180keV using a complex simulator for space environment. The experimental results showed that when the irradiation fluence reaches 5×1014/cm2, the spectral transmittance began to decrease in the ultraviolet region. Such an effect gradually spread to the visible region and was little in the infrared region, with increasing the fluence. The transmittance decreased with increasing the fluence monotonously in the range less than 2×1016part/cm2, while showed an recovery in the region around 540nm after the electron fluence more than 5×1015part/cm2. The E' color centers, non-bridging oxygen hole centers and structural defects of Al impurity were proved to be responsible for the absorption bands at 203-215, 220-240, 260-300, 410-450 and 530-570nm, which were induced by the charged particles.
