In the present analysis of velocity field maps for four instants before and during the July 14, 1980 solar flare, obvious changes in the velocity field are held to furnish support for the emergent magnetic flux model. The characteristic time of energy storage is noted to be as short as 1 hr, if newly emergent flux is the primary energy source. Observations also indicate that there may be more than one current sheet at the flare maximum.
