This report describes a first study of non-scanning Fourier Transform spectrometry in astronomical applications. The basic theory and practical limitations of such instruments are considered, and early results with a prototype instrument are presented. Finally, the potential of such designs for use at the combined coude focus of the ESO Very Large Telescope is briefly examined.
