The paper is concerned with absorbing matter distribution in the galactic complex NGC 2264 and its relation to clouds and star formation indicators. Three opaque clouds, in northwestern, north, and central regions, are identified. The central cloud, located behind the cluster, is partially differentiated, with eight almost unreddened far-background stars seen through it. Nonstationary pre-main-sequence In-type stars are shown to form a corona of 14 x 19.5 pc around NGC 2264. With allowance for low-mass pre-main-sequence stars, the optical age of the cluster is estimated at 2 x 10 to the 7th yr.
