The spectroscopic and photometric data of 48 Per in the visible and near infrared regions were obtained on December 7, 8, and 11, 1989. The observations were made with the 60-cm, 90-cm, and 126-cm telescopes at Xinglong Station of the Beijing Astronomical Observatory. The results obtained show that there were rapid variations in the strength of H-beta emission line with time scale of about 30 min and changeable trend of infrared magnitude at around UT 16.1 h to 16.5 h on December 7, 1989. In terms of the far-IR color-color diagram of Be stars obtained at 12, 25, and 60 microns (Cote et al., 1986) and the theoretical model (Arati et al., 1978) in infrared band, we conclude that the envelope around 48 Per is unstable. Finally, compared with Goraya's (1985) spectral scans of 48 Per, we found that the intensities of H-beta emission had increased. So we draw the conclusion that the present state appears to be the continuation of the previous active variability.
