We present the results of a study of substructure in a sample of Abell clusters for which we have redshift information and galaxy photometry. This sample was not gathered from the literature all the data were gathered as part of an ESO key program. We compute the frequency of substructure in our sample using a battery of tests described by Pinkney etal (1996). We also compare the frequency of substructure in our sample with that found in a sample of clusters containing wide angle tail radio sources as a test of the hypothesis that these WAT clusters have undergone recent mergers. The determination of Omega from cluster substructure is also discussed.
