Results of a study of 107 Abell clusters are presented. Using the Leiden plate-scanning machine, the Palomar Sky Survey Plates were scanned to produce lists of galaxies in these clusters down to mR of approximately 18.5 mag. Maps are presented of the projected galaxy distribution within 2h50 exp -1 Mpc of the cluster center, plots of position angle as a function of the number of galaxies selected, and radial profiles for each of the clusters. Three methods are used for measuring the position angles: Fourier analysis of the azimuthal distribution of galaxies, moment analysis, and the method of principal axes. About 50 percent of the clusters are found to be significantly elongated with a position angle uncertainty of not more than 15 deg. For significantly elongated clusters, the methods produce consistent position angle estimates. The maximum likelihood method is used to fit two models for the radial profiles of clusters. It is found that for 10 percent of the clusters it is possible to distinguish between King and de Vaucouleurs models.
