The characteristics of coaxial feeds for the parabolic reflector antenna of a 100-m radio telescope are considered. Advantages of the new feeds are partly related to a significant reduction of the feed support blockage loss. Scattering and phase errors in the aperture field are also reduced. Questions of area utilization in the case of a radio telescope with primary feeds are investigated, giving attention to the effect of wire gratings. Experimental values are compared with theoretical data.
