Variations in the Hα profile in the spectrum of κ Orionis, B0.5 Ia, are determined from coudé plates at 12.7Å. mm-1 reciprocal dispersion. The profile consists of a double-peaked-absorption-plus-central-emission core over broad absorption wings, more extended in the negative velocity part. Changes are observed typically over a long time scale, from night to night, in the profile shape. There are also evidences of short time scale variations, of the order of several tens of minutes, in the central reversal. The self reversal may provide evidence for the presence of hot regions surrounding the star's photosphere. Their limited extension can be inferred from the time scale of the emission variability. Changes in the overall profile could be associated with variations in ionization structure of the wind.
