The ROSAT PSPC is used to perform an exploratory study of four fields in the Carina spiral arm of the Galaxy containing five radio supernova remnants. We present upper limits for the detection in X-rays of the remnants G296.8-0.3, G298.5-0.3, G298.6+0.0, and G299.0+0.2, none of which have previously been studied in X-rays. We also present a spatial and spectral analysis of the interesting X-ray remnant G296.7-0.1. Previous observations by the Einstein IPC revealed a complex extended structure. Comparison to early radio maps and consideration of its location in a region dense with supernova remnants led to the suggestion that the X-ray object was actually two overlapping remnants. Follow-up observations in X-rays with the LE/CMA on EXOSAT and new radio observations led workers to conclude instead that the data was consistent with one, albeit complex, remnant. Our observation provides improved data with which to search for spectral differences across this remnant and resolve this issue.
