This is a progress report on a new study of cosmic ray propagation in the Galaxy. We use a diffusion equation in three spatial dimensions taking into account catastrophic and continuous losses in the steady state and in the time dependent case. The diffusion coefficient is considered as depending on momentum, being spatial constant in the galactic disc and in the halo separately. Such calculations are needed to understand the influence of the galactic structure and the time dependence of the sources on cosmic ray spectra measured on earth. We also intend to employ these calculations in a model of diffuse galactic gamma ray emission that can be used to estimate the foreground in the GLAST data analysis.
